What is Tui Na?

Tui Na or Chinese Theraputic Massage is a traditional healing massage over 2500 years old. It follows principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, treating similar conditions to acupuncture. Applied over light clothing or a cotton sheet, it focuses on specific physical problems, injuries or pain and is safe and effective for children’s health problems as well as adults. It is a perfect treatment in itself or can be used in conjunction with acupuncture. Among techniques used, pressure is applied to appropriate acupuncture points and along channels to encourage blood and energy to flow. Sometimes the points can feel quite tender. For those who are anxious about needles Tui Na is a great alternative to acupuncture. I studied Tui Na at The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading in 2009. The course took a year to complete. I wanted to be able to offer my patients a hands-on therapy which complimented acupuncture treatment to enhance a patient’s sense of well-being.
